In many traditional cultures, it is believed that what happens in the first forty days after birth impacts the health of the mother-baby unit for the entirety of their lives. This forty-day period is a pause that allows you to navigate the newness and uncertainty of early motherhood, while giving yourself a place to process the emotional and physical transformation that is taking place. While the modern mama may not be able to, or be interested in, a strict confinement, the principles of honoring this special time using insights from Ayurveda, Chinese Medicine, and other ancient cultures create a structure for you to feel nourished, held, and restored.
Our modern culture prizes information over intuition and busyness over rest, but the overabundance of depleted, yet well-informed mothers are crying out for something different. Much focus is placed on preparing for birth, with little thought given to what happens AFTER baby arrives. Yet this is the time when moms need the most preparation and support. And often, family is far away and life is busy and we just don't get the resources we need to recover fully. But it doesn't have to be like this.
Reimagine your entire postpartum period and set yourself up for success by learning ways to create a postpartum sanctuary in your home, heal the body and support the mind, rest (for real!), stock your postpartum kitchen, recover from childbirth, and use ritual to process your unique birth story and mothering experience. You will leave the workshop with a solid plan for support in place and guideposts to help you along the way.
This workshop is best attended while pregnant (so you can have a plan in place!) but is open to mamas in all stages of their pregnancy and postpartum journey. In Takoma Park.
