"Nature Play at Home" Book Talk and Reception

Nancy Striniste, outdoor learning expert and author of Nature Play at Home: Creating Outdoor Spaces that Connect Children with the Natural World, will discuss the importance of children experiencing time in nature, address the benefits of natural playspaces and provide how-tos for homeowners and educators. Reception with refreshments precedes and follows the book talk.

Join local author Nancy Striniste for a presentation and social reception upon the publication of her new book, Nature Play at Home: Creating Outdoor Spaces that Connect Children with the Natural World. Enjoy a presentation in which Nancy, an outdoor learning expert and a member of the NoVA Outside leadership team, will discuss the importance of children experiencing time in nature, address the benefits of natural playspaces and provide how-tos for homeowners and educators. Before and after the presentation, guests will have the opportunity for networking and social time with refreshments against the lovely wooded backdrop behind Historic Blenheim’s Civil War Interpretive Center. Acclaimed Last Child in the Woods author Richard Louv calls Striniste’s book “a magnificent resource for transforming backyards into stimulating environments which enhance children’s creativity, learning, and fun.” Library Journal refers to the book as an “eye-catching volume” and gives it a starred review with the verdict “Colorful and filled with great solutions for connecting kids to the natural world; highly recommended.” Tickets are $35 with a signed copy of the book or $25 for the event alone. Additional books will be available for purchase at list price of $24.99. Proceeds from the event benefit NoVA Outside’s work to connect children to nature.
