COLESVILLE, Maryland—Experience the beauty and history of the trolley era through the eyes of local artists during a special event at the National Capital Trolley Museum. Dozens of professional and amateur artists from the Montgomery Art Association, alongside children from the region, will spend Saturday, April 23 creating paintings of the world’s largest collection of original DC street cars. All original artwork will then be for sale during an art show and reception in the museum’s main hall. The reception is free and open to the public. A portion of artwork sales goes in support of the Museum’s efforts to renovate and repair the historic trolleys. Trolley enthusiasts and the general public are invited to make a day of it by visiting the museum and then being a part of the reception and sale. The museum is open 12-5 pm. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for children 2-17 and seniors and includes a tour, trolley ride, and artist viewing. Advanced reservations at dctrolley.org are strongly recommended. We encourage children to bring their art supplies and create alongside the MAA artists! We’ll also have a number of other kid-focused activities, including a caricaturist. This event is supported in part by the Maryland State Arts Council (msac.org). The National Capital Trolley Museum is at 1313 Bonifant Rd. in Colesville, Maryland. About the Montgomery Art Association: MAA (montgomeryart.org) is a nonprofit supporting the visual arts and artists in Montgomery County and the D.C. metro area. MAA offers a number of opportunities for our 350 members to display and sell their work. They include the annual Paint the Town Labor Day Show in Kensington, where we display hundreds of pieces of art in a juried show and attract more than 3,000 visitors over the holiday weekend. We also offer field trips, plein air painting outings, business workshops, art-themed social events and monthly meetings with noteworthy guest speakers. About the National Capital Trolley Museum: Opening to the public in 1969, the Museum’s mission includes preserving and interpreting the history of Washington’s electric street railways. The collections include 17 streetcars from Washington and other cities, and the Museum operates many on a mile-long demonstration railway. In addition, the Museum features an O-scale model layout depicting a Washington streetscape from the 1930s, a film program, and traditional exhibits of street railway artifacts and photographs. The National Capital Trolley Museum is supported in part by funding from the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority, Montgomery County Government, and Heritage Montgomery and by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.
