If you are an Arlington parent looking for an excellent infant, preschool, or lower elementary school for your child starting in 2016, then please come to the information session for this new school.
I am a DC parent who works in Ballston, and I am trying to bring a new private Montessori school to the Ballston-Rosslyn area. There is a school started in California and now expanding to the East Coast called LePort Schools. One couple I am friends with in California sends three kids there and loves how it motivates and inspires the children to learn and enjoy learning. They've made huge leaps academically since switching to LePort from their previous schools. (They used to live in Northern Virginia.)
LePort is very interested in opening in Northern Virginia, and if we can find enough interested parents, they will open in September 2016. The program will be for infants and up through 3rd grade. Eventually, they will expand to go through 8th grade.
One huge advantage for parents of young children is that you can pre-pay, get a discount, and have a guaranteed spot for your child without having to worry about waitlists. (Plus the payment will be refunded if you don’t end up sending your child there.)
You can learn more about the proposed school on this webpage:
www.leportschools.com/nova
And here is a brochure with lots of details. If you click on links like “infant program,” “toddler program,” or “primary program,” it will show you videos of the classrooms in action.

There will be an information session with a teacher from the school and the east coast coordinator:

LePort's infant through 3rd grade programs follow the Montessori method. Montessori emphasizes independence and self-motivation for learning. It's great for math, reading, and grammar. There’s not much technology (they don’t give the kids laptops), and there’s also not much homework, so young children have time for other things. I attended Montessori until I was nine and loved it. LePort also teaches good study habits and organization, as well as the basic values necessary for school, like productivity, curiosity, and courtesy. I'm very excited about this possibility, and I hope others are too!
