How do architects and landscape architects design sites to support their green building designs? This children's workshop will explore concepts including site/building orientation, renewable energy, landscaping with native plants, drip irrigation, and storm water management.
Kids will learn about these concepts through hands-on activities including:
- playing with water to look at traditional and drip irrigation and explore the difference between pervious and impervious surfaces
- learning about native DC plants
- building a simple building that is appropriately oriented on a site and add elements such as renewable energy sources (solar panels, wind power), rain barrels, drip irrigation systems, and green roofs.
Ages: 8 - 12
Organized by: Washington Architectural Foundation's DACkids Programs
