Anne is a precocious orphan adopted at age 12 by an aging brother and sister, Marilla (Barbara Hayes) and Mathew Cuthbert (Teddy Gron). They thought they were adopting a boy to help with their farm. Anne was a challenge, but very smart and soon made the Cuthbert's proud.
