Junior Jams: This is LEA
by admin, last updated: Mar 20, 2014 07:37 AM
LEA’s authentic, uplifting, thought provoking and positive voice lends itself well to quality kindierock, or music for little people as she calls it. Every member of the family will appreciate her seamless blend of gospel, jazz, country and R&B into her own style—SoulFolk—drawing comparisons to Tracy Chapman’s earthy folk, Joni Mitchell’s exquisite songcraft, and Ani DiFranco’s inventive guitar playing and dynamic delivery. LEA has shared the stage with luminaries including Odetta, Mavis Staples, Dar Williams and Anthony Hamilton. She performs around the world at venues as diverse as arts centers, universities, festivals, coffeehouses, nightclubs, vineyards, and places of worship. With seven full-length albums already available, and a recording career spanning over a decade, LEA is repeatedly acknowledged by the Washington Area Music Association as one of the region’s best vocalists, songwriters and recording artists. She is also a graduate of the prestigious Artist-in-Residence program at The Music Center at Strathmore in Bethesda, Md. To book in advance at this initmate venue, go to fndtnarts.com/events.
Junior Jams: John Henry the Guitar Man
by admin, last updated: Mar 20, 2014 07:37 AM
John Henry is renowned for his ability to connect with his audiences. He brings 20 years of early childhood education, and experience as a dad himself to his interactive program, engaging children of all ages as they dance, sing and imagine. Performing since the age of 14, and with several different bands including At Wits End, Crown Victoria and Volare, John Henry values the educational experience to be gained from exposure to live music. “Music allows children to process information in a new way. They hear sounds, they feel rhythm and they are able to actively participate in the learning process. Music can also be a wonderful introduction to other cultures. With songs and instruments children are able to appreciate different cultures and become familiar with new ideas from a musical perspective.”
Junior Jams: Here Comes Trouble with Special Guest Marsha Goodman-Wood
by admin, last updated: Mar 20, 2014 07:36 AM
Join us for this special pre-Mom's Day double bill and enjoy the best of the area's original kindierock with Here Comes Trobule headed by a mom and dad duo of New England Conservatory of Music graduates, Kelly Donohue and Jon Babu, performing with another artist mom, Marsha Goodman-Wood. Here Comes Trouble beautifully blends a variety of musical genres, from funk to punk, to rockabilly to rock and roll, appealing to the zany and wacky in all kids and their parents. A talented cast of characters musically stomp and chomp their way through an energetic and engaging repertoire of original music including titles like "Watermelon Felon," "Spill the Beans," and "I Like Toys." Singer-songwriter Marsha Goodman-Wood is known for setting little toes to tapping with original melodies that mix generous doses of science and positive social messages into songs that are just plain fun. Her quirky, smart compositions take on topics from astronomy, answering the age-old question “Why Can’t You Dance on Jupiter?” to nonconformity with “Sheep Don’t Wear Shoes,” and biology in “The Penguin Song.” A former cognitive neuroscientist, Marsha includes fun facts and lessons in her songs! Recently named a Washington Post Editor’s Pick, Marsha is also a nominee for Best Children’s Artist of 2013 by the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA). Her 2012 release, "Gravity Vacation" was a WAMA nominee for Best Children’s Music Recording, and “The Penguin Song” was just named to the list of finalists for the 30th Annual Mid Atlantic Song Contest.
