Many you live in a bubble and are obnoxious about it. You really think people who can't afford to give more than $1000 bonuses don't deserve to have nannies look after their children?
You live in an entitled bubble. A nanny isn’t someone you are entitled to have watch your children. It’s the definition of a luxury. If you need affordable childcare you don’t hire a nanny. That’s the issue so many people on DCUM fail to realize. A nanny is expensive and if you didn’t take that into consideration before deciding you wanted that form of childcare then that’s on you. Most people cannot actually afford to hire nannies. Just like most people cannot afford to buy a brand new luxury car, there are other options.
I am the poster you are quoting. What? Are you kidding me? I grew up with immigrant parents who worked their tails off to provide for us and save for our education. They hired a nice lady to take care of me and my siblings. No way they could afford to pay her a month's salary as a bonus. The idea of them buying a luxury car instead of giving her a bonus makes me laugh. They drove 15 year old used cars and we wore thrift store clothes. The nanny was well-loved and respected and considered a part of our family and came to all our family functions even after we grew up. I can guarantee you she never felt used or disrespected when we couldn't pay her a huge bonus at the end of her years with us. Maybe that's because we didn't treat her as a member of some lower class. And I'll bet you anything my parents paid our nanny a higher percentage of their own salaries than many of the posters here who are suggesting that if you can't give your nanny a five figure bonus then you can't afford a nanny. I don't even have a nanny and am only in this forum because I am searching for one. I can afford to pay a potential nanny more than most and I can afford generous bonuses, but that isn't at all the point. The point is that not everyone can afford to do this and that doesn't mean they should not hire a nanny for their children. You know nothing about the OP's means. You have no idea they are attorneys or teachers. Get off your moral high horse in your tiny socioeconomic bubble. Sure I agree people shouldn't be stingy if they have the means, but it is disturbingly elitist to suggest that only people of certain means should hire a nanny.
