OP again, I'm kind of done with this thread. There is a Starbucks with an outdoors area with shade literally across the street she could go there with him and it under the umbrellas if shade is such a concern. She can also take him on our balcony with his toys/water table etc. None of which she chooses to do. There are options but IMO she is making excuses to not do her job. I have a full time job, I don't just hire a nanny to watch my son for the heck of it.
Ok OP, you are doing a bait and switch. You didn't say you would like the nanny to go out on the balcony. Obviously they can go in intermittently to cool off in that case. That is not the same as insisting she go bake in 90+ degree playground. Not sure why you would want DC to just go sit at a table at Starbucks, though.
I agree with PP. OP you are now changing your story. Going to the balcony is not taking the kid out! I don't think your nanny has any problem taking your kid to the balcony, you must be lying. Have you even ever told her that taking the kid out on the balcony is the minimum thing you would like if she cannot actually go outside! I think you just assumed that your nanny (and all of us on this thread) would think that taking the kid out on the balcony was part of "taking the kid out". Why in the world hanging out with a kid at Starbucks would be any fun to your child or the nanny. It is difficult to contain a kid in public space, the best place for those types of outings are playgrounds, pools, soft gyms, even bookstores with kids area (Barnes and Nobles). Just tell the poor nanny to just take the kid out on the balcony, that's all,and let's all move on. But mind you, if your nanny ever gets a sunburn on the job, its on you, she already warned you she doesn't like hot humid days (maybe her skin doesnt take it well).
