I refuse to subscribe to the magazine for a few reasons. The people involved in the magazine are immature and it was obvious at nannypalooza that they have no idea what they are doing. $39 for 6 magazines is outrageous and why even consider buying the online edition when they keep posting their articles on their Facebook page for free. No thanks. I'm sure whoever started this thread is somehow involved in the magazine.
I agree 100%! I always thought the girls involved in this magazine were a little naive and immature, but it was very apparent at Nannypalooza. I wanted to support them, but after that debacle will not be giving them any of my money.
I was at Nannypalooza and while I thought the intern and associate editors could have acted better, it's hilarious to call this debacle the fault of the executive editors. If your charges misbehaves, does that mean you are a terrible nanny? No. Then maybe you should take what happened with a grain of salt. What I find most humorous about the Nannypalooza incident was that it was one of their members that were accosted and assaulted but they're at fault. I am all about taking personal responsibility for their actions but the logic being used here is hilarious.
I'll ask again. If the editors don't condone the behavior, then why are these people still on staff? I've interned and volunteered both domestically and internationally quite extensively. In every single position if I ever had an incident like this, I would have been asked to leave, especially as an intern. If they want people to take them seriously and treat them like a professional, they need to act professional at all times, especially at a conference surrounded by the people who they are targeting to subscribe.
So if you were an intern and were assaulted, then you should have been fired? Well I guess you're lucky no one assaulted you then. This post has become more about the girls than it has about the actual magazine. I subscribed because we have a real publication for us. Did I enjoy paying for it? No. There used to be a few free print publications but they've all stopped. Why? Because they couldn't keep up with the printing costs and the drag of doing all the design, managing all the photos etc. 39 dollars isn't cheap, but I am willing to bet that NM is not making a profit on it all given that they are a start up. Printing on Demand is expensive, just go to your local Fed Ex or print shop if you don't believe me. Not subscribing to a publications because you have problems with an intern is small minded at best and ignorant at worst. You should choose to subscribe based on the merits of the magazine. If there is something you don't like about it, then reach out to them. They've been receptive to the suggestions by various veterans of the Nanny community, it's why they have them writing for them. It peeves me that we as nannies argue that we're un-represented and marginalized in society, but when one of our own tries to create a real product for us, we decide to tear them down.
