this post makes me sad. I was with my last NF for 8 years. Supported them through the loss of MBs 30yo brother, 3 miscarriages, 3 unsuccessful rounds of IVF, and a trial separation that was thankfully resolved without divorce. O kept my head down, worked hard often going above and beyond to ease extra stress, and provided consistency for everyone as best I could. Even though those situations made my job much more strenuous, I wouldn't consider it a burden. The nanny-family relationship is a unique intertwining web of professionalism and personal circumstances.
+1. I cannot imagine ever feeling that my employers or my charges were a burden I wanted to feel free from. I sat in the hospital with my charge nearly every night for a week while she underwent heart surgery; helped them move houses twice; dealt with my employer claiming she was going to divorce her husband and so much family drama. But I love those children and will never do the happy dance when this job ends.
