Sometimes, as PP said, it is just blind, dumb luck.  She wanted to work close to her home and we loved her on sight!  She came into our house and asked where she could wash her hands.  After she washed them, she took my newborn baby from my mother and held him for the entire interview - and he was 100% calm and peaceful in her arms.  She was articulate, interested, very pleasant and easy to talk to.  All of her references said that she was a Pied Piper and all the kids loved her -- this was completely accurate.
