I am a 24 hr live in nanny in the DC area. I take care of 3 toddlers 96 hrs each week. I make 700 per week. I am able to live in on the days I don't work in a nice basement apartment. I am also provided a car and health insurance. Yes technically I make min wage but I am also paid to sleep.
Do the parents ever parent?
Yes the other 3 days each week they do. I'm the only nanny they have.
So for four days they don't see their children? I don't get this setup.
You are making less than minimum wage. I hope they are paying you OT, but I doubt it.
They travel for work 4 days per week. Yes I make min wage roughly 7.29 per hr so a few cents over. No I don't get over time because in Virginia live in nannies are not required to be paid it.
How old are you? What's your background? Are you here legally?
I'm in my 30's, I have a masters degree in early childhood education. I've been a nanny for 15 years. Yes I am here legally.. I am a 6th generation American. I have not been with this family very long. My plan is to stay as long as I am needed.
Can they afford to pay you better?
No. and I am happy with the job. Of course getting paid more would be wonderful but 700 a week is a lot of money to me. With my last job I made 400. Of course I wasn't working 24 hrs per day.
Nanny for 15 years, Masters degree, not illegal. Making $400 a week. Must be in rural Alabama.
