No need to defend yourself here if you really need to do your office work. Most nannies know which parents would like to give her a surprise day off, in order to spend some extra parenting time with their child. That kind of thing is hard to hide from the nanny.
Oh, but it IS necessary to defend yourself if whatever you intend to do today doesn't sufficiently meet your standard of "worthy of requiring me to work"?
No one said you had to defend yourself. That has nothing to do with my right to be annoyed about it. I'm sure your boss occasionally does selfish things, perhaps at your expense, but such that you can't complain to their face about it? That is all this is. Employees bitching about their bosses, who sometimes do annoying or selfish things. I receive and take very little time off each year in comparison to my boss. I get 5 days at my choosing, 5 at their choosing, while they get a few weeks off beyond that (and because I work in a share, that time does not trickle down). 5 days is not much to work with throughout the entire year, so yes it annoys me to see all of my employers choose to laze about while I care for their kids and clean up after them. My MBs went fucking shopping today and got manicures. My husband is home sick (and I am sick myself) with a cold the kids passed on to me, and I'm pissed off that I'm here instead of with him.
