I love how SOME nannies justify their phone and text/internet use. I'm not referring to when the child is napping/sleeping etc. (although, could you be helping with things around the house rather than talking on your phone or email?). However the main point made here was the nanny was ignoring the children and not supervising them at a park while she chatted away on her phone. There are clearly some times that a phone call is warranted and justified. But NOT when your supposed to be supervising a crawling infant and their older sibling. This was the main point, it seems some that do this either don't care how it is perceived to others or are really ignorant. The point made here is that it's not only wrong but it's dangerous to be on the phone instead of supervising the kids.
Oh come off it. All of us who replied agreed that what OP described is completely unacceptable. The only "justification" (or explanation, as I'd label it) came after nitpicky posters tried to argue about other details - like what if it was on a walk, or what if I was talking to my MB, etc. No one here has said that OPs nanny is justified - in fact, most of us suggested she receive a firm warning for this. I still don't understand why OP didn't approach her right there at the park. So come off your high horse and let's talk about the reality - no one is saying what OPs nanny did was okay, and you snotty people, whether you're nannies or MBs, are truly insufferable. We all do effing household chores, PP, but thanks for jumping in as a remote manager for all of us nannies who otherwise wouldn't realize we should tidy up before we hop online. THANK GOD YOU WERE HERE TO REMIND US.
