I would like to say I am never on the phone when we are at the park or out side with my charges as it is too dangerous. I would also like to say I have seen many mothers out there with their eyes glued to their cell phone. There have been a few times when I have rescued their child from the playground as the child got into difficulty and the mother was not paying attention, and yes I know it is the mother with the child as they call her mom. I have sadly seen mothers at café's spend the whole time on their cell phones while their child sits there drinking their drink looking bored as the mom wont answer or talk to them. So it is not just the nannies that are on their cell phones it is also the parents. Parents are worse then the nannies.
Unreal.. get over yourself.

Anonymous wrote:I love how SOME nannies justify their phone and text/internet use. I'm not referring to when the child is napping/sleeping etc. (although, could you be helping with things around the house rather than talking on your phone or email?).
However the main point made here was the nanny was ignoring the children and not supervising them at a park while she chatted away on her phone. There are clearly some times that a phone call is warranted and justified. But NOT when your supposed to be supervising a crawling infant and their older sibling. This was the main point, it seems some that do this either don't care how it is perceived to others or are really ignorant. The point made here is that it's not only wrong but it's dangerous to be on the phone instead of supervising the kids.

Nannies - when kids are awake/in tow, do not talk on or use your phone in a social manner.. PERIOD.

Ok some may say they are their for the children, not to pick up after the adults.
Now I personally get online via cell at nap time, but only after I pick up. My MB has told me I am to do no household chores. I do them anyways. I would go bonkers if I didn't. My charges sleep 2 hours in the morning and 45 mins to an hour in the afternoon. I have already cleaned up the playroom, cleaned up breakfast, unloaded the dishwasher, started another load of dishes, started laundry and preped all bottles for the day. I still will have about an hour free. What am I to do? Watch the laundry spin? Stare blankly at the walls?
