As a child, I had a nanny who took lots of things from our house. She would literally go through our closets when we were at school and take our toys and clothes to sell on consignment. My mother accused me of losing things. My mother also gave the nanny a credit card for incidental spending on groceries, etc., which she regularly used to by her own shopping--in front of me. I told my mother, but she said I must have "misunderstood." The nanny would simply tear up the credit card bills when they came in the mail. It took three months for my mother to figure it out. Finally, a credit card bill arrived on a Saturday.
So did you mom just not pay her credit card bills for months, then?
Yep. Out of sight was out of mind. There were all kinds of interest charges and late fees on the bill she finally received. Also, almost half the clothes in my closet were missing. Obviously, my mom was a special case. But it didn't seem smart for the nanny either. She got a couple thousand dollars worth of stuff, but getting caught was inevitable.
