I was looking at the descriptions of people who can get the coronavirus vaccine in group 1b. It says "childcare providers." It seems like a nanny would fall into that category. Has anyone been able to find any additional descriptions or advice?
Yes. At least I hope so. Nannies are considered in this category in California and a number of other states.
Not all counties in California have said nannies will fall under childcare. Some like, LA, only consider those in a childcare facility (like daycare) essential for the vaccine under tier 1b1. But local nannies are trying to help with that. We have been on the phone and emailing the county, mayor and public health departments for days now. It looks like LA just forgot about the domestic help. Also according to them it’s where you work (in LA) not where you live. This is also, just for LA county. Pasadena, BH, etc have their own take. It’s going to be a mess. If you are in California, I’d suggest contacting your local public health department to see if they actually mean nannies when they say childcare. While California deemed them essential for those who worked for essential parents it may not hold water for the vaccine.
Where did you read that? Mayor Garcetti made nannies essential workers and we do childcare. Where have you read that Nannies are excluded? I haven’t seen that anywhere and I’ve been looking.
Our local nanny leaders have been reaching out to the mayor and the department of public health Nannies in Los Angeles County will be in phase 2 unless they meet the requirements for anything under tier under phase 1 Prior to the local nannies reaching out. Nannies were not considered at all and were under general population. Luckily we have strong nanny advocates here and they have been trying to get us recognized. While it’s not phase 1 it’s better than nothing
