The ignorance on this thread is unbelievable. Yes, nannies in VA qualify as essential workers under the category of 1B. That also includes au pairs. Please inform and encourage your nanny/au pair to sign up/register for the vaccine if they desire.

**This is coming from a fully vaccinated nanny living in VA who works in DC exclusively.

Our nanny who lives in Arlington got it- she was truthful about her occupation and signed up through the waitlist. Got a call two weeks ago with appt for next day. Not sure how different the counties are

Under which category?

NP here. Nanny’s are under childcare here with daycare workers. I have my vaccine scheduled for 3/3 in Los Angeles.

You are NOT eligible in Los Angeles and the only way you got that appt was by clicking you are a healthcare worker or 65+. Maybe through a Kaiser loophole, but if you are scheduled through LAFD or LA county, you are a garbage human taking a spot from someone eligible. The LA county public health site isn’t even at teachers yet!! You need to wait your turn.

Wow... who's the garbage human? Long Beach (like pasadena) runs it's own vaccine program for those who LIVE and WORK there - and lists NANNIES under childcare specifically.

Nice try, you said Los angleles not Pasadena. Just remember who you’re stepping over when you get that vaccine.

Pasedena is in Los Angeles County. Calm the f down. No one is getting stepped over.

Perhaps pp got the first dose in Long Beach and the second one in Los Angeles. As long as she works in LB and lives in LA, I don’t have a problem with it. I have more of a problem with people coming from another state or country and getting vaccinated. In a few months, there will be enough vaccines to immunize most of the people who want it.

I actually live in LA but work in Long Beach, so I needed a letter from my employers and my paystub. It helped bring paid by homepay, since it’s for nannies/caregivers. My address says LA county, but with my employers letter I was able to get the vaccine because that’s where I’m employed.

So happy I didn’t have to wait for LA county, what a mess!!!

For the Long Beach nannies, did you just need a letter from your employer family?

Yes. At least I hope so. Nannies are considered in this category in California and a number of other states.

Not all counties in California have said nannies will fall under childcare. Some like, LA, only consider those in a childcare facility (like daycare) essential for the vaccine under tier 1b1. But local nannies are trying to help with that. We have been on the phone and emailing the county, mayor and public health departments for days now. It looks like LA just forgot about the domestic help.

Also according to them it’s where you work (in LA) not where you live.

This is also, just for LA county. Pasadena, BH, etc have their own take.

It’s going to be a mess.

If you are in California, I’d suggest contacting your local public health department to see if they actually mean nannies when they say childcare.
While California deemed them essential for those who worked for essential parents it may not hold water for the vaccine.

Where did you read that? Mayor Garcetti made nannies essential workers and we do childcare. Where have you read that Nannies are excluded? I haven’t seen that anywhere and I’ve been looking.

Our local nanny leaders have been reaching out to the mayor and the department of public health

Nannies in Los Angeles County will be in phase 2 unless they meet the requirements for anything under tier under phase 1

Prior to the local nannies reaching out. Nannies were not considered at all and were under general population.
Luckily we have strong nanny advocates here and they have been trying to get us recognized. While it’s not phase 1 it’s better than nothing
