My sister was making $30/ hr before the new baby came. Bosses gave her $35 with the arrival of the baby (at sister's request.) Bosses were not about to lose their best nanny, with neighbors chomping at the bit waiting for her to quit so they could hire her. This is in LA.
Good for your sister. However you know it is not the norm. Few will get a 15 to 20% increase in any profession for any added responsibility.
In what other profession are you responsible for the primary care of a newborn child?
Neonatal and pediatric nurse; pediatrician; daycare teacher/aide; night nurse. And the parents are primary care - we are secondary care. I am a nanny and I wish 15 to 20% was the norm - but it isn’t.
