OP here. They have called me off the past two weeks. Without pay of course. Today when they cancelled for this week, but assured they need me next week, I brought up knowing of someone who is interested in the position. They are pretty chill to work for but the cheapness is annoying. The girl who is interested is ok with the pay and usually accepts less than what I am making bringing my child, though I advised her to up her rate to AT LEAST $12 because she only wanted $10! Her mom was an in home daycare provider so I think she is confused with rates of a nanny vs in home. We are in NorCal where people are very cheap with childcare also. I still need the money but at this point its not super worth it for me. MB was happy about getting her contact info.
$12 an hour is not cheap for child care when you are bringing your child. Why don't you pay for child care for your child and how much are you willing to pay? Then, they have to pay for food and other stuff for your kid. And, wear and tear on the house. It doesn't sound like this was ever a permanent job and just mutually convenient. You are pregnant with a kid. They can get someone else cheaper without a child so their kid gets full attention. Who would you choose if both care providers are fine? You are an on-call babysitter from the sounds of it and if you need the money, find another job but it may be hard to do that pregnant with a young child. You offered up the substitute and they probably though you were no longer interested.
OP here, calm down....she doesn't bring a child. $12 was what I suggested she ask for at the least because she only wanted $10 and it's just her. I make $13 myself and it's lower but I don't mind too much since I bring my DD.
