Most people I know hire nannies because they want a household team and a little flexibility. They give you flexibility. They are even paying you for a week where your job will be really light and then you still have paid vacation. But you can’t be a little flexible? It’s one day of your life. Are you really going to suffer that much from going to bed late ONE night?
While I very much agree with you, and as a nanny I am highly flexible with my family. I am actually driving 5 hours round trip to pick up my NF’s relatives on a weekend. First, I am ASKED and can absolutely say no. Additionally, I receive good benefits and would never accept a position that I had to work when the family is on vacation. The OP was told that she would be doing something both out of her job scope as well as outside of her hours. It also appears that the OP only gets one week of vacation time. My guess is that her pay and benefits package is not top of the line (obviously, given the vacation situation discussed) and while they provide her with flexibility, the family knew that going in and likely pays accordingly. OP absolutely does not owe her NF this request/demand. I would decline simply because of the way they handled it. OP, since you are working that week, I agree with the suggestion that you drop their car off during working hours and they can pay for your Uber home. It is a fair compromise. Additionally, I am curious as to what your tasks for the week are.
tasks are all home related which they asked me if I was willing to do in the interview (they had this vacation planned for months). I agreed because I also asked for my own paid vacation time. however, the reason I am no willing to drive them is because of the way they told me. they didn't ask. they didn't consider my thoughts. they demanded. I was never told in the interview that I would have to drive them.
