My takeaways from this shocking tragedy are 1) multiple references required and 2) don’t turn a blind eye to any unusual behavior.  But in no way am I implying that this was in any way the parents’ fault.  Tragedy can strike even the most careful and 20/20 hindsight.

As an aside, I’m a SAHM and live in the same neighborhood as the Krims.  This area is teeming with young families and mothers are very proactive to report abuse by caregivers they witness.  If this nanny had been exhibiting any alarming behavior with her charges in public, someone would have said something and tried to find the parents.  So my guess is she was not and was exhibiting only subtle changes that only people close to her such as her employers could pick up on.[/quote]

Or she showed no signs.  Many people who attempt suicide don’t show any signs.  I would think this might be comparable.[/quote]
