We pay our nanny $19/hr for 25 hours a week (one 18 mo) Twice a week she drives DS to a class a little over a mile away. She asked to be compensated for gas etc. I used the federal mileage rate, which came out to about $12/mo. She thinks this is too low and wants $50/month. Am I crazy in thinking that is crazy? I don't think she understands what the federal rate is, but even so she's only driving 17 miles a month!
she is crazy. She likely spoke to some other nanny who has an entirely different job scope and pay scheme and heard that nanny gets $50/month for who knows what amount of driving or caretaking. And now your nanny is asking for the same. Yuck. You are already overpaying. You can choose to include driving in the hourly rate or choose to pay ANY amount per mile (including below, at or above the IRS rec'd mileage cap). Very petty on her part for 2 miles of driving a day. Very petty.
