Why isn't the other (vacationing) family still paying their share of nanny's wages? If nanny is not paid by the absent family, then she is definitely sending you a message by insisting on full pay for a full (2 kid) workload. It sounds like you, nanny, and other family need a (better) work agreement that offers guaranteed pay. Or you and other family may get to find a new nanny soon.
The OP said the nanny is still getting her full pay, implying the other family is paying. OP is expecting to be able to throw her second kid in for free, under the pretense that nanny is still getting her wages from the vacationing family. She is ignoring the fact that one of the perks of a nanny share and guaranteed hours is that she will still get paid by a vacationing family while not having the second child there. She is also ignoring that her second child isn't included in the contract and that the share family's vacation wages aren't intended to cover her extra child. The nanny is obviously making a point that she expects to be accommodated for a new child, and rightfully so.
+1 She is making a point to you by asking for $30/hr (which is a bit ridiculous to me). How do you normally treat her?
