did you read OP's post? the point is not that the nanny was preventing the child from doing something dangerous, she was telling her not to do stuff because she is a girl.  I assume you would not let a charge jump off a spinning object whether the charge was a boy or a girl.  [/quote]
It was just a statement. I say stupid stuff all the time. Thankfully no one has posted my statements on dcum yet. I assume the nanny just wanted the girl to not get hurt. She said she can't because she was a girl only to get her to stop since the other kids were boys. Like when I tell my charge he can't slide down the pole until he is 7. She made a stupid statement that's it. No harm done. [/quote]

this is exactly OP's point, it was an harmful statement. I say things to my girls too to prevent them from getting hurt on the playground, but I would never say that they  cannot do something because they are girls. I actually tell them they can do anything and to never listen to people who say girls should not do this or that.   you told your charge he cannot slide down until he is 7, which is ok since when he is 7 he will be able to do it. you did not tell him you cannot slide down the pole because you are a boy.
