True, and it weighed on me. But really what are my choices? Stay with them for the next decade to make up for his shitty mother? There's sad things going on all over the world, and I can't save everyone I meet. I need to go on with my life and be happy.

If there was an endgame in sight, like I thought I could convince her to let a family that would give him the attention he needed adopt him, then I might have stayed for a while, but to just keep the status quo and try to make up for her shortcomings is not something I can do longterm.[/quote]
