When I babysit, it is nice to have a rough idea of how long the parents will be out, but it isn't required.
There is a big difference between 12:30 and 2 am. I'm still semi-awake at 12:30. At 2 am, I can barely keep my eyes open. Driving home at that hour is dangerous when you're tired. If you know it's going to be a late night, tell me when you book me so I can be prepared and so I can decline if I like. Nothing will ruin a decent working relationship faster than feeling taken advantage of.
It's not taking advantage of someone to hire them to babysit for the night and staying out late. You get paid for each hour you're there. Being taken advantage of would be if I said I will pay you $80 to work from 6-10pm and then came home at 1am and said I wasn't paying you any more than $80 because that's what you agreed to.
