I have been a nanny and am now a parent. If a decision has to be made regarding the care of my child I want to make it myself, even if its over the phone. Wouldn't they go ahead with any life saving surgery? If it was not immediately life threatening, then they would need consent, but if it is life saving at that moment, you will die without it, then they go ahead and do it. They have to do that for people no matter what, whether you have any insurance, whether you are awake and can give consent for yourself or unconscious and can't give consent for yourself. They legally have to do everything they can to save your life, unless you have signed a DNR. [/quote]
