I've had a helluva time getting paid as a nanny, the only thing that's made a difference is finding a family that wants to pay taxes and put me on a direct deposit payroll. Even the sweetest families have forgotten my cash on Fridays, in the past I have sent parents back out to the ATM and asked them to tack on a extra half hours pay for the extra time I watch the kids while they got the cash. It is really disrespectful to forget to pay me consistently, but it's happened in almost all my 20 years of nannying and even as a teacher in a liscensed home daycare. If your ready to leave for other reasons that's fine, but you may encounter this again. Always speak up and think about the taxes/payroll service nex time around.
Really? Did you really send them out to an ATM and had them add on another 1/2 hour pay? I just cannot imagine doing that and keeping my job long term. I am not being snide, I am just trying to figure out (in all honesty) how you do that nicely and without them resenting you and sooner (rather than later) finding another nanny. I have been a nanny for 18+ years. Please tell me how you would phrase all that so it comes across okay. I really need a lesson myself.
