I had a trial planed with a family. The agency I worked with made the family and I sign a trial contract even though it was only supposed to be for 3hrs. Trial and contract was set for 3-5pm @ $40 an hour. Contract was signed 24hr hours before. I showed up on time (1:55pm) at trial location. Security took my car and keys and parked it off property. House manger came to greet me. She said she told agency the day before, that she only expected me at 3:30pm (rescheduled). Agency NEVER informed me. I apologized to HM and said I don’t mind coming back at 3:30pm. She said no. She asked me to wait in homes movie theater. I waited for about 35-40 minutes. Then HM took me around home. Kids were not there. After I hung out with other nanny. Then we picked up one child from school. At 5pm the other child came home. HM asked if I can stay later? I said no problem. I was at their home on trial from 2pm-6pm (4hrs). The next day the agency’s recruiter told me to invoice the family from 3:30pm-6pm as her supervisor told her to tell me. No apologies for not relating the new start time. I told her that I was there on time at 2pm. She again reiterated that I should only invoice the family for 2.5hrs. I would probably be ok if the recruiter apologized profusely for failing to tell me the new start time (It made ME look inept to family), But if they wanted me to invoice the family from only 3:30pm, I really think the agency should have offered to pay the 1.5hrs ($60) of time I worked. The family only paid for the 2.5hrs, but it’s what I asked for per the agency. I should not have to work for free. What do you think? Should the family have paid me for 4hrs trial? Should the agency supplemented the 1.5hrs because of their failure to notify me? Should I suck it up and work for free? Does this show a big red flag from family?
