You’re absolutely right to question this. You showed up on time and fulfilled what was agreed. The agency failed to notify you about the schedule change, so you shouldn’t have to lose pay for their mistake. You deserve compensation for the full 4 hours, or at least the 1.5 hours you waited. It’s not professional for them to expect you to work for free, and yes, it’s a small red flag if they don’t take responsibility.

Since you never were properly notified by the agency that the family requested your arrival at 3:30 as opposed to 2, and you arrived at 2 then the agency should pay you for the 1.5 hr discrepancy.

However it appears you were at the prospective family’s home working for 3.5 hrs. so the family should pay for that & the agency should pay you for the half-hr. that you actually waited.

I think the agency is showing irresponsibility in not informing you of the time change then requesting that you only invoice the family for 2.5 hrs. when in fact you were there for four.

And the House Manager should not have asked you to stay an extra hr. if the contract stated that you were only to work for three.
But I totally understand how stuff comes up in families and that they may have needed you longer.

I fault the agency mostly overall…….

They should absolutely pay you for all your time. If not they would be getting a bad review

You should be paid from 2-6. However, now you’ve done the trial do you want the job? If you do and it pays $40 an hour I would probably let it go.

I’m sorry. I made a mistake above. Trial contract was signed for 2pm-5pm.

I had a trial planed with a family. The agency I worked with made the family and I sign a trial contract even though it was only supposed to be for 3hrs. Trial and contract was set for 3-5pm @ $40 an hour. Contract was signed 24hr hours before.

I showed up on time (1:55pm) at trial location. Security took my car and keys and parked it off property. House manger came to greet me. She said she told agency the day before, that she only expected me at 3:30pm (rescheduled). Agency NEVER informed me. I apologized to HM and said I don’t mind coming back at 3:30pm. She said no. She asked me to wait in homes movie theater. I waited for about 35-40 minutes. Then HM took me around home. Kids were not there. After I hung out with other nanny. Then we picked up one child from school. At 5pm the other child came home. HM asked if I can stay later? I said no problem. I was at their home on trial from 2pm-6pm (4hrs).

The next day the agency’s recruiter told me to invoice the family from 3:30pm-6pm as her supervisor told her to tell me. No apologies for not relating the new start time. I told her that I was there on time at 2pm. She again reiterated that I should only invoice the family for 2.5hrs.

I would probably be ok if the recruiter apologized profusely for failing to tell me the new start time (It made ME look inept to family), But if they wanted me to invoice the family from only 3:30pm, I really think the agency should have offered to pay the 1.5hrs ($60) of time I worked. The family only paid for the 2.5hrs, but it’s what I asked for per the agency. I should not have to work for free. What do you think? Should the family have paid me for 4hrs trial? Should the agency supplemented the 1.5hrs because of their failure to notify me? Should I suck it up and work for free? Does this show a big red flag from family?
