Do families expect their nanny to come in on snow days even if the roads a not the best but you can still get around it? The family I work for hates when I take off so I rarely do. Today is a snow day the dad is at work but the mom is home and working but the roads where I live aren’t cleared yet so I explained that via text and I got no response. This is a normal thing they do if I’m sick and I call out they do not respond, so many times I go in still when I’m not feeling great. All of the times I’ve been sick it was from them but they don’t care. They make me feel guilty a lot. When I first started the dad got Covid gave it to me and the mom asked me to come in, I didn’t of course. Then a year later same thing the mom caught Covid gave it to me asked me to come in after a few days. I once loved working there now lately I just feel unappreciated and if I bring anything up to the mom she says I’m disrespectful. It’s just a lot.
You MUST take care of yourself first and foremost; if the roads are unsafe to drive; just text them you aren’t showing up due to the weather conditions. Whether they respond or not, it’s up to them. You should not feel guilty, not your fault!
