I would give your nanny the same holiday schedule your employer gives you, unless she wants something different.  We give our nanny the 11 federal holidays because we're federal employees.  However, if she wanted, for example, the day after Thanksgiving as a holiday (Feds do not get it off and I always work that day), I would give her that in exchange for working, say, Columbus Day so that my husband and I could go do a non-kid friendly activity for that day.

Our nanny gets 5 sick days and 10 vacation days a year.  She accrues a certain number of hours every pay period just like I do in my job.  Our contract said that if she needed to use sick/vacation time she hadn't yet accrued, it would be unpaid.  However, I ended up advancing it to her (just as my employer would do for me, at their discretion).

The contract should specify what her duties are, e.g. in addition to child care, doing the baby's laundry and tidying up toys.  And be sure to have her list her emergency contacts.  Montgomery County has a model contract that we based ours on.[/quote]
