Our former au pair has been back in her home country for a year and applied for a tourist visa to visit. Her visa was declined under section 214(b) and the letter states the requirement that "the applicant to demonstrate that they have a residence in a foreign county which they have no intention of abandoning". While I agree she doesn't want to stay in her home country, she recently obtained an Australian work visa and would not overstayed the US tourist visa. Is there anything I can do to help her?
If you haven’t already, you can write a letter for her to present to the embassy. There are templates online. Basically you say she is a close friend and you hope to host her in your home for X dates due to Y special occasion (or whatever) and vouch for her good character and intention to leave the US after the visit. I have done this for a visitor, and had someone do it for me while traveling, and so far it has worked. Good luck!
