As a former counselor officer who refused plenty of visas under 214B in my time, I would say any attempt by you to help would likely backfire as it would signal that you had a vested interest in her coming which I would have surmised meant you were trying to get her back in the US to provide childcare. I know it sucks, but I would say this is probably a dead end.

While I agree she doesn't want to stay in her home country, she recently obtained an Australian work visa and would not overstayed the US tourist visa. Is there anything I can do to help her?

If you haven’t already, you can write a letter for her to present to the embassy. There are templates online. Basically you say she is a close friend and you hope to host her in your home for X dates due to Y special occasion (or whatever) and vouch for her good character and intention to leave the US after the visit. I have done this for a visitor, and had someone do it for me while traveling, and so far it has worked. Good luck!

Are you….kidding? This is not a thing. Even when the border was open for asylum seekers their access would take months at best.

Our former au pair has been back in her home country for a year and applied for a tourist visa to visit. Her visa was declined under section 214(b) and the letter states the requirement that "the applicant to demonstrate that they have a residence in a foreign county which they have no intention of abandoning".
