We are an NIE family. One of our concerns with out of country au pairs is that we will bring somebody here, and then they will rematch right away. I feel like agencies love us right now because we can bring the au pairs in, and then once they rematch, other families can scoop them up. Most NIE families are on the frontline and/or have special needs, so it's not exactly party time. What have other NIE families done during the interview process to explore this more with au pair candidates?
We have an aupair through the National Interest Exemption. Of course it’s a concern they will rematch but it’s always a concern. Rematches cost a host family and it’s an inconvenience to be without care no matter if it’s an NIE aupair or a normal year. We decided to try and if it didn’t work out, we would apply again with a new aupair. Lol. We could restart the program ourselves after continually to bring in out of country aupairs. J/k. You always take a risk matching with an aupair. This is just another risk.
If that’s what it takes, do it!
