We did not have a handbook with our first AP. This still did not stop us from communicating certain house rules to her. That year helped us understand what is important to us and we have had a handbook ever since. Each year, we make minor changes because (a) the kids get older and (b) we discover things that we wish we would have included.

+1, I created the handbook after I had matched with my first AP. I gave it to her the day she arrived. She read it and never broke any rule. Tbh, most APs don't even read them until they get to your house. I gave my current AP the handbook during matching and I am sure she didn't read it or she didn't understand 80% of its content. Most of the time they will ask you questions that are important to them during matching. And yes Aupairmom has a handbook and APC also have a handbook template I can sent to you if you like.[/quote]
