Get him out of diapers ASAP My former boss wouldn’t let me do it till boys were older than 4, it was disgusting
OP here, Unfortunately this isn't my call. Mom is beyond stubborn with this. Frankly, even if we were able, I don't really feel like shouldering the burden of getting the kid trained. He's an absolute sweetheart, but I can tell day to day how far he is from potty training. Truthfully, my main concern for the time being is simply to not get peed on anymore.
Then the above. Standing diaper change in the bathroom from behind him.
+1. And he is three. Tell him not to pee until his diaper is back on.
This. I'd even tell him, since he's old enough to understand instructions--that he needs to try and pee BEFORE laying down to get changed. That way you're at least cutting down on the amount of changes somewhat. It's not your job to potty train the kid. Just say "Hey X, try and go pee, before we change your butt. So you don't have to go potty once your diaper is off." He should be able to understand. Just give him long enough to actually get all the pee out, before you untape the diaper, or else you'll be faced with the same problem.
