I had a family do that once (paid legally via check) they said they didn’t have the money due to a vacation payment. I made it very clear that it was 100% unacceptable and I wouldn’t tolerate being paid late. You cannot be an employer and not pay on time, period. Are you paying legally? Good luck finding a quality candidate if you’re not. In fact, most people here (myself included) have zero sympathies when things go awry if you aren’t paying legally.
