Our housekeeper has been with us for five years. She started as once a week and in July moved to full-time. We absolutely love her. When she started in July, I put her on a salary - $40k/year - plus I pay her taxes. We were gone for one week in July and most of August and she was paid full-time even though she didn't come in. She also frequently - probably every other week - takes one day off. Since she is on salary, these are fully paid. Although she doesn't live close by - and doesn't drive - I pay for her to Uber to and from our house, which is usually 20 min. but a couple of times has taken 45 min. We have paid for driving lessons for her with the promise that we would get her a car once she has her license. This should make her travel to and from our house much easier and faster. She generally starts work at 10:00 am and leaves between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Today she told me that she doesn't want to work on Tuesdays any more. Last Tuesday (Halloween), she took the day off, which was fine, but since I work I need to have Tuesdays covered. I told her she could leave early on Tuesdays if she needed, say at 4:00 pm. She told me she needed to be home for her daughter, but her daughter is in school full-time and then has math club after. I'm really confused by this. Panicked that she is going to leave, I jumped on to care.com to start the search process, and I see that not only was she on, but she was active last week. Now I am wondering if she is picking up extra work and that's why she wants Tuesdays off. What can I do? We definitely love her - I think of her as family - and want her to stay, but I need to have her 5x a week.
