I'm looking over my contract for a part time job (1 day a week 7:30-5:30). The family has 3 children. 1 child (under 6 months) I will have the entire day, the 2nd child I will have for only 2 hours and the 3rd child, I will have for approximately 6 hrs but 3 hours would be spent sleeping (the child is a great napper). Does your rate change if you have all 3 children one day? If school is closed etc. The hourly rate is $17hr which I'm ok with because it's really just one child and I'll just clean the common areas and bottles (I have a full time job and get paid much more). I haven't read the entire contract but will add on if I have any other questions.
Generally, no - your rate does not increase. I don't know where you are, OP, but $17 an hour is really very low for even one infant.
I am in Arlington, VA. It's tough finding a 1 or 2 day job that doesn't interfere with my full time job-- just looking for some extra cash it's about 150 per day. They have a full time nanny, so I am hoping not to do much (housekeeping) which I will inquire about. I've just heard in the past at interviews, that parents would pay more if their school age child stayed home for the day. I just don't want to sound dumb :)
