I don't want to out the agency, but it's a large one in Manhattan. The family they are sending me to has 4 kids, /9 I thought maybe it was low. Good to know other agencies also charge a big commission! Also the agency is just putting me in touch with the family, I'm doing the work. I can find my own families!
Then why are you using them? The agency also has to pay its staff, and "guarantee" you to the family and the hotel -- more liability for them, whatever disclosures and waivers they claim they have. They're basically charging you $5 off your regular $25/hr fee to do the legwork for you. But if you can find $25/hr work easily, why wouldn't you? There has to be some advantage in this for you, like not having to do the introduction, discuss the fee, etc.. If there's no advantage, then, no, don't use them.
