Our nanny gets IRS rates - currently 54 cents per mile. She gets that for any driving done on the job - inclusive of running the kids to/from school, going to the grocery store, etc.. She keeps a log and we write her a check once a month.
curious how big that monthly check is. ?? $150?! $250?!
It varies significantly. During the year, when the kids are in school most of the mileage is extremely local, so total miles driven might work out to $75-100 in reimbursement. During the summer, when they're taking day trips and things it was not unusual for the monthly reimbursement to be more in the order of $125. I have no problem with that. I want the kids entertained, I want the nanny to feel compensated fairly, and I think the clarity around using the IRS rates (and all that rate is designed to encompass beyond just gas costs) means I am happy to pay those rates.
