I have been working for this family for only 6 weeks. I first interviewed with them in March well before I became pregnant, they seemed to like me a lot and said that they want to make my switch from my old job worth it. I had asked for $17 an hour for 3 children, ages 2, 4 and 7. Well, they didn't reply for a few days, I had other offers for interviews so I checked in with them, saying if they were interested I would not bother with the interviews, and they said they would get back to me that weekend after checking references (this was on a Monday or Tuesday). A few weeks go by, and I check in with them again, mad at myself that I did not go to the interview the last weekend. After about a month of this sillyness they say they want to set up a trial day, and also sent me a daily rate that ended up being just over minimum wage here. I talked them up to $13 an hour because I was desperate to leave the other family I was with that had inconsistent hours and a messy divorce. Well here I am now, they absolutely love me, the grandma even told the mom after she met me to make sure I stay on for years because I am so good with the kids. The 7 year old told me I was the only potential nanny that interviewed, I am guessing they were waiting around to find a cheaper nanny, they even said at the interview that they didn't know what the cost of the nanny would be after I said my rate. I am their first nanny, the youngest does not speak yet but is going to therapy, I think that is a major reason they made the switch from daycare, but I have a feeling they aren't afraid to go back to daycare if they had to. I am 10 weeks pregnant now, and I have no clue how to tell them. I feel like they didn't want me that bad in the first place since it took so long to get hired, and I feel that they are kind of cheap. The families around here drop people so easily no matter how great you are it seems (Sacramento, CA) and it took months for me to find this job even though I have a ton of experience (babysat since age 12, 3 years of gymnastics coaching, camp counselor, plus I've been a part time nanny ever since I had my license at 16. My boyfriend is a plumbing apprentice making only $12 an hour, so I really need a job. My job is only 20-30 hours a week because I am a part time student (which I probably have to stop doing even though it's online) I am only 21 so I feel that this will be a bit of a shock to them. I also would like to bring my baby with, but I have no clue how that would work out since it's such a big age difference. Sorry if this is all over the place, I have had all day MS and barley get sleep.
