I would say that 50% of the time the parents do not follow up with the call. Not unusual as they have most likely found someone in the interim of responding to me via e-mail and their scheduled phone interview. I have come to expect it.
As a parent who has gone through the nanny search twice, I think I have probably done this both timesl by accident. I normally post adds on SitterCity and on my local listserve and I get literally hundreds of responses. I weed through them and am able to cut most just based on not having met my basic requirements, but even then I'm lift with a dozen or so that seem like good candidates. I try to do due diligence with all of them and keep them in the loop, but the sheer number makes it very difficult. Sometimes a candidate is able to schedule an interview very soon and then I might take a pause on the others while I interview her, and then if I end up liking her, I might just go with it and only get to double back with everyone else after. Honestly, it might not be that they're being rude. There are so so many candidates who want to be nannies that it's really difficult to weed through and keep everyone in contact. Doesn't mean we shouldn't try, but just for consideration.
