Because even those who are not parents themselves are part of the society in which the next generation is being raised.  Imagine if you could go to the grocery store and everyone there understood that tantrums are a normal developmental stage for toddlers, because that was common knowledge.  How would people interact with you differently as you ignore your melting-down 2yo?[/quote]
