Since she has a history of not taking well to being "given notice," I would plan ahead financially OP and just assume you will be jobless for those three weeks preceding your new job. Geez, after four years of work you would think she should be grateful. Plus three weeks notice is good. Good for you to be moving on. And away from her.
No ones going to take 3 weeks off of work just to spite the nanny out of the last three weeks or work/pay.
Happened to me. I gave a family I was with for 1.5 a months notice. I had mentioned going back to teaching to mb here and there and when I received An offer I wanted to notify asap so she could make arrangements. She was at the beach at the time and the dad was still in town. I went over to speak with him and He told her. She called me crying and saying how blindsided she felt. I apologized (shouldn't have) and told her over the next month is even help her look for my replacement. She and the kids were due back after the weekend. Sunday evening got an email( a way We never used to communicate) saying that the kids would be going to their grandparents for the week. I was really suspicious. By he end of the week I tried to contact her to no avail. Left a message that I was taking car seats to the house and some other things I had from them. When I get there and open the garage a car belonging to one of their backup sitters was hiding in the garage. I say hiding because we all know to park in a certain space and leave garage space for parents. Never got to see my babies ever again. And the oldest had been a student of mine part time before I became their nanny. It was horrible. But for the best the relationship was toxic at times
