The thing is, they aren't going to offer extra compensation for a long commute or weather, because that's just part of getting to work. In fact, you should clarify the IRS reimbursement thing. Most employers do not reimburse for the commute (i.e., drive from home to work), only for driving while *at* work. The IRS also does not allow you to write off the expense of your commute (driving from home to work and back).

This sounds like an excellent position, and they will be able to find someone who lives closer if you don't want it.
