06:57, I hope you're not serious. If you are you will go through many nannies. You might find a few willing to work for so little but as soon as something better comes along your nanny will be gone. Do you not value your children and want the best for them? Let me guess you have cable with hbo cinamax and every other added movie channel, go to the spa weekly, get your hair done for $500, mani pedis weekly, yet can't "afford" to pay someone who will be teaching, caring for and loving what should be the most important thing in your life
I'm sorry but I have to look at things more rationally, not just go with what society says at this moment. Nannying just isn't a job that requires a lot of effort or skill and it should be paid as such. It's basically babysitting with longer hours so the rate should be $8-10 an hour, no more. Look at it this way, being a garbage person is a tough, physical job, with hazards and the smell is awful plus it's not a proud job, you would think it would earn more than like $8 an hour but it doesn't. Same thing with being a nanny, it's a simple job for younger folks (or really old retired ones), it is not something that should be someones career. Just because you never moved on doesn't mean I should be supporting you for $20 an hour to babysit my kids.
Actually garbage men make more then min wage. It's a state job and they do alright. Nannying is not just physical it's mentally and emotionally challenging. I'm not a nanny but I'm a mother and I wouldn't want someone ignoring my crying child because they're exhausted and frustrated making min wage yet working long hours. Babysitting is much different so get a clue. You are so lost!
+1 State employees (like garbage men) make a middle class income with good benefits and excellent retirement. (Your ignorance always astounds me, and we always know when it's you.) Please tell all the SAHMs you know that caring for children and a household 10-12 hours a day isn't worth more than minimum wage, I'm sure they'd LOVE to give you their take on that. In the meantime, I want my nanny to feel appreciated, respected, and well compensated so on those incredibly long and challenging days she can take a breath and remember she's a valued employee and will give 110%. I doubt you get that level of dedication when you pay $8/hr.
